Metroland

Metroland is the name given to these suburban areas that were built in the early part of the 20th century to the north-west of London in the counties of Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Middlesex that were served by the Metropolitan Railway.  It was coined by the Met’s marketing department in 1915 and used to heavily promote the new developments.  The picture of the building the Rayner’s lived in was even used in the literature to promote the idyll countryside people could move to.
